Community Outreach
As
Christians, we must be actively engaged in service to those around us. Not
only is this a natural response to the love and ministry of Jesus Christ, it
is also an essential part of the process of establishing the Kingdom of God
on Earth. The
Scriptures tell us:
"You who are my disciples must be found continuing in the forefront
of those organizations and movements which are recognizing the worth of
persons and are committed to bringing the ministry of my Son to bear on
their lives." - Doctrine & Covenants Sec. 151:9
The
Richardson congregation of the Community of Christ supports the following
local, national, and international organizations and charities with our
time, our talents, and our material resources. To learn more about each
organization, the work they perform, and how to contact them for information
on how you can lend (or receive) support, please click on the links below.
Also, be sure to visit our page with
additional links
to Christian, humanitarian and charitable organizations available on the
Internet.

Food
Pantry
The
Community of Christ in Richardson maintains a "Food Pantry" supplied by
members of the congregation. Items in the Food Pantry include
non-perishable food staples, paper goods, dish soap, laundry soap, bath
soap, and other items required for basic living needs. The church
leadership is responsible for identifying church members in need of these
items and distributing them accordingly in a confidential manner.
Occasionally, special "Food Pantry Drives" are conducted when special
needs are discovered or identified in order to meet an immediate need.

Oblation
Fund
The
Oblation Fund is a special account maintained and supported by almost
every Community of Christ congregation in the world. Its purpose is to
provide emergency funds to local church members (or friends and family of
church members) in need. Most often, these funds are used to help pay
utility bills, rent, or to buy groceries during a financial crisis. The
Oblation Fund is meant as a short term aid and is often replenished by
recipients when they achieve a more stable financial status. A special
offering is collected for the Oblation Fund typically on the first Sunday
of each month. Members donate to the fund either by specifying this fund
on the offertory envelopes, or on their checks. Also, any cash collected
during this offertory is placed in the Oblation Fund.
